Liu Zhenmin

LiuZhenmin used to serve as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairsof China.On June 8, 2017, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Liu Zhenmin from China as the Under-Secretary-Generalof the United Nationsin charge of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. He took over the post of Wu Hongbo from China as the Under-Secretary-General.

Prior to the appointment, Liu Zhenmin had more than 30 years of diplomatic work experience in bilateral, regional and global affairs. He had been deeply involved in climate change negotiations for ten years, including negotiations on the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. In addition, Liu Zhenmin had also participated extensively in international activities to protect the earth’s environment, including Antarctica and oceans. In the past few years, he held various positions and emphasized and advocated sustainable development.
