Prof. Qin mainly engaged in experimental pathology research and to understand the pathogenesis of human disease in the manner of comparative medical analysis based on animal models. She has developed the national animal model platforms for infectious diseases and established and studied the animal models for Alzheimer’s diseases, AIDS, SARS-CoV, Influenza virus, TB, HFMD, MERS-CoV. For the epidemic of COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection, Prof Qin established the hACE2 mice and rhesus macaque model. Based on the animal models, Prof Qin studied the transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 via the route of respiratory system, direct contact, aerosol, conjunctiva etc, and then evaluated the efficiency and protection effect of a series of drug and vaccine candidates in vivo.
