He is chief scientist of artificial Intelligence Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and expert of Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Strategy Advisory Expert Committee. Emeritus Professor, Chinese University of Hong Kong, IEEE Fellow (2001), IAPR Fellow (2002). He has received several major awards at home and abroad, such as national Natural Science Award in 1993, Leadership Award of International Neural Network Society in 1995, and outstanding Achievement Award of Asia-pacific Neural Network Society in 2006 (the first Chinese to win the award).
